Movie Review: EuroTrip

I recently watched one of my favorite traveling movies. Traveling as in, movies that are based on going somewhere, but I happened to be watching it as I myself were also traveling. I had forgotten how funny it was, and a lot of graduating high school students could relate to it. If you’re a fan of the Movies Road Trip and Old School, you’ll love this movie and its goofy corks that meet along the way
The movie starts off at a graduation, with four best friends who are ready for the summer, and are preparing for the different colleges that they’ll head off to in August. The main character is a boy named Scott Thomas, who finds himself in a peril when he blows off his hot pen-pal that he had mistaken for a guy. The basic plot is about him and his three other friends, going off to Europe to find his pen-pal. On the way, they experience crazy and awkward/embarrassing things that’ll send you on the floor laughing.
But even with the comedy, I think that this movie holds good morals. The first one would be going out of your box, and not always having a plan. Scott was always the kind of kid who didn’t do anything before thinking it out, and having a laid at plan for every action he made. He ended up getting dumped by his girlfriend because she said he was way too predictable. I’m definitely not saying that that’s a bad thing, but I think it’s good for people to get out of their comfort zone and live differently. Scott’s decision to go to Europe was completely last minute. By making that decision, he proved to his friends that he can be fun and unpredictable.
Another moral I felt that this movie held, was that looks aren’t everything. Scott said he had a connection with his pen-pal, even before he knew it was some pretty blonde chick from Berlin. And even once he did, he still fell in love with who she was, not the way she looked. I think that’s something everyone should take into consideration.
I would just like to put it out that the movie is rated R, so I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone under 17, unless you have a parental consent of courseJ. In the comedy genre I would rate this movie at about a 3-5 stars.

Which Ones Uglier?

Since I did the ugliest dog, I thought it would only be fare to find the ugliest cat. I came across two pictures, and both seemed to be relatively ugly…but I couldn’t decide which one was uglier. I liked the cat sitting on the chair because every time I looked at it I couldn’t help but laugh. The other picture was truly just horrendous. Stuck between the two I decided to post both and let my audience decide which one was uglier.
Wondering what kind of cats these are? The one sitting on the chair happens to be the breed of a Sphinx cat. These are naturally ugly because, just like the ugliest dog, they aren’t born with any hair. Its wrinkly skin makes it extra ugly, and old looking
I’m not really sure what the other cats breed is. I looked all throughout the internet, but it never gave me a specific breed.

World’s Ugliest Dog

As I was Googling for some interesting, grotesque animals, I came across this rather horrifying picture of what is known to be “The Ugliest Dog in the World”. I was interested on the background of how it came to be, so I looked more into it. Come to find out people actually host Ugly Dog Contest. Not only do they give prizes for the ugliest dog, but the winner goes down into the Ugly Dog hall of fame
The contests take place in Northern California at the annual Sonoma-Marin Fair.
Sam was a blind, Chinese crested dog. These dogs were famous for winning this type of contest. The dogs are bred to be born with no hair, except for patches on the ears. Sam was unique because along with having no hair, he was also blind.
It’s a shame that the poor thing died in 2005. He had been battling skin cancer for quite sometime, and finally they had to let him go. He was a three year champion of winning the Ugliest Dog. His death made national news, and even though he was ugly, it helped him become an all time celebrity.
To learn more about the fair and see more pictures of ugly dogs, you can go to this website: http://www.sonoma-marinfair.org/uglydogvote08.shtml . The fair is usually held during the summertime. Last year it was held from June 18th-22nd

Movie Review: Wanted

Basic plot: A young man finds himself in a query as he tries to find his identity. He’s at a stage in life where he doesn’t know what his purpose is, until he comes across a secret organization of assassins. He has to face multiple tasks to meet the organizations goals, and on the way, he discovers who he really is.

If you’re ever looking for a good action packed film, I’m sure this movie could meet your needs. It stars Angelina Jolie, some new guy I’ve never heard of, and Morgan Freeman. It was kind of a shame because I’ve always pictured Morgan Freeman as being God from Bruce Almighty, but in this movie, his role certainly gives the plot a definite twist. Jolie’s character is pretty much the same as all of her other roles she’s ever played. I think it’s funny how most characters that she’s played usually are cold hearted, or completely serious. I don’t really know that many movies where she plays some one who’s not all about being strictly business.
Also, the movie consists a bit of violence, and some sexual content, so if you’re not in the mood for that, I probably wouldn’t suggest it. But the positive is that it gives you a completely different outlook on why people do what they do, in this case it would be the job of an assassin. I still find it repulsive that people would do it, but I guess I have to keep in mind that it is still just a movie.

Overall the movie was entertaining, and there are some pretty comical parts as well. I wouldn't classify it as a comedy but there was some good humor in it. As a rating i give it 3 of 5 stars.

Movie Review: Twilight

As most teenage girls, I’m guilty of being a victim drawn into the ever so popular books known as the Twilight series, by Stephanie Meyers. Recently, the movie based on the series, was shown in theaters. Of course, nothing can ever compare to the book, but for the most part, it was pretty fitting.
It’s always fun to hear what peoples opinions are when it comes to critiquing movies. Over and over again I heard that Edward Cullen and Bella Swan’s characters were not at all what they pictured. I would have to agree that their looks didn’t quite fit what I had imagined. But both actors did an excellent job on their characters personality. Edward’s chivalric acts fit perfect to how I pictured the book to be. And Bella’s quiet, curious personality was also well played. Together the young actors did a pretty good job in reenacting the book.
The other characters were somewhat what I thought of them to look like. Edward’s dad, Carlisle, looked perfect for his part. As for the rest of the family, I wasn’t too crazy about the choices, besides Alice and Emmett. Rosalie was nothing like how I thought she would look like. I personally don’t think that the actress was all that attractive. She was pretty, but nothing like the Rosalie in the book. Same goes for Alice’s boyfriend, Jasper. I honestly thought he was creepy in the movie. He had a chilling face and I didn’t seem like he ever blinked…
Bella’s first friends, like Mike, Eric, and Jessica, were well played. The only thing I would’ve changed was the way Mike looked. I figured he would’ve been more jock looking. The Mike in the movie seemed a little nerdy and small for my taste.
A couple times in the movie, I felt that the actors were over playing their role. One scene I remember is when Bella first starts to sit with Edward, and as she looks at her other friends, they call turn abruptly. It looked too unnatural, and it made the movie more unreal. Another scene is when the vampires run, and use their “powers”. I know the producers had to make it seem supernatural, but I thought the people just looked stupid.
My last scene that I thought was over played was one of the last ones, where Bella is laying in the studio, bleeding from the attack. As she’s yelling, I remember the camera doing a close up on her face. Repetitively, it kept showing her face and each time she would scream and then cross her eyes. It looked kind of ordinary the first time, but she kept doing it, and it got old fast. I had to laugh to myself because it looked ridiculous.
Overall, it was a cute movie, not the book, but they never are anyways. I felt it could’ve focused more on their relationship, but for the most part, they covered most of the book. They definitely built the movie up for the sequel, which hopefully won’t disappoint other young viewers.
