World’s Ugliest Dog
As I was Googling for some interesting, grotesque animals, I came across this rather horrifying picture of what is known to be “The Ugliest Dog in the World”. I was interested on the background of how it came to be, so I looked more into it. Come to find out people actually host Ugly Dog Contest. Not only do they give prizes for the ugliest dog, but the winner goes down into the Ugly Dog hall of fame
The contests take place in Northern California at the annual Sonoma-Marin Fair.
Sam was a blind, Chinese crested dog. These dogs were famous for winning this type of contest. The dogs are bred to be born with no hair, except for patches on the ears. Sam was unique because along with having no hair, he was also blind.
It’s a shame that the poor thing died in 2005. He had been battling skin cancer for quite sometime, and finally they had to let him go. He was a three year champion of winning the Ugliest Dog. His death made national news, and even though he was ugly, it helped him become an all time celebrity.
