Brace Face

Remember those days when you had a mouth full of metal, or some nice rub bands that caused you to not be able to open your mouth. Or even that cool metal head piece you were supposed to wear to help you teeth be straight. Well if you don’t, I certainly do. And let me just say, it’s totally worth it. I had to wear braces for two years, and I’m not exaggerating when I say, those two years were absolute torture. My case wasn’t even that bad, some people actually had to have the fortunate experience of having to wear headgear, ouch. But like I said, it’s good to get it over with, because the final product is one of the best feelings you can have.
My braces were terrible. I couldn’t close my mouth all the way, so people always gave me a hard time for having my mouth open. And my lips weren’t big enough to cover my braces, so my lips were always sticking out, and I just looked ridiculous. Also, like others I’m sure, I had a problem with talking. Since it was so much metal in a small area, I just had the hardest time pronouncing words, especially words that required you to open and close your mouth, which was like every word. My hardest ones were probably words that started with W. It was the worst; people would make fun of me all the time. A comment I got a lot was that I looked like a fish, real nice right? I couldn’t help but agree. My big mouth and lips were always open and it just looked weird, so yeah I did look like a fish. But now, instead of stupid, insults about my teeth, I get awesome complements. People are always commenting on how white and straight my teeth were, and it’s a great feeling.

8 Limbed Girl
It’s been shown through out the news, but I felt that it would be neat to do a blog about this remarkable story of the girl famous for her 6 legs that were attached to her body after her birth. From what the doctors have researched, she was supposed to share her mother’s womb with two other infants. Unfortunately, something went genetically during the pregnancy, causing the other baby to conjoin with the second baby. This baby was named Lakshmi Tatma, and became the new interest of the public eye. Her unique story became nation wide, as the world listened to her fascinating story
In 2007, at two years old, Lakshmi had her extra legs and arms removed at the Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore. At team of 30 surgeons helped this little girl start the journey of living a normal life. After the 27-hour surgery, doctors informed the media that her recovery is going to be a lengthy and difficult recovery, but that it’ll be worth it, and that their client will have no problems with the healing process.
When I first heard about this little girl’s story, I didn’t even know what to think. I had never heard of someone actually having that many extra limbs. I should different articles to some of my friends, and some of them had actually heard of the story. I hadn’t done much research into it, but one of my friends told me that the little girl was even worshiped by her people. Her body symbolized a great god in her country. In some ways, I can understand why people would worship her, if she resembled someone worshiped in her religion, but then I was told people didn’t want her to get the surgery done just because of that. I personally think that’s not fair, and incredibly unhealthy and dangerous to live with something that could be dysfunctional. But I guess it still caused a lot of controversy, and it made me sad to think that poor girl didn’t have any say in what she wanted to do, because she was only two at the time.

Movie Review:My Best Friends Girl

Overall, I would describe this movie as an edgier version of Hitch meets Good Luck Chuck, and maybe a little bit of Failure to Launch.

If anyone is a Dane Cook lover, then you will love this movie. I happen to be a huge Dane Cook fan, so I figured I had to check this movie out. It also has one of my favorite actresses, Kate Hudson. And when you put these two together, it makes one pretty entertaining movie.
First off, I’ll say that this movie has good morals. Appreciate what you have, because if you let go of it, you might not be able to find something as great as you had. In this movies case, I’m referring to a relationship. For anyone who knows what it’s like to have someone, and then let them go, and then realize there’s nothing better out there for you, this is a movie you could relate to. But that’s not the only moral it has, another one is pointed out that second chances can create good things, and that they can truly be worth it. I know that if I were some of the women in this movie, I would never do what they do, but somehow they find it right to forgive.
It starts off with Tank Turner (Dane Cook) purposely sabotaging a date that he’s on, so that the girl will go crawling back to her ex-boyfriend, begging him to take her back. That’s Tank’s job, to make himself look so bad, that it makes the women realize they were lucky to have the man they had before him. Unfortunately, Tank gets asked to do a rather difficult favor, when his best friend/ roommate, gets dumped by his girlfriend Alexis (Kate Hudson). Just like any other routine he has with making himself look like a complete jerk; he takes her on the worst date possible. But instead of hating him, she starts to fall for him. And of course, he starts to fall for her, and the poor Dusty (Jason Biggs, also known as the main star in the American Pie films), the best friend/ roommate, is stuck, completely oblivious to Tanks whereabouts with Alexis.
Of course, Dusty finds out, and the whole thing causes a huge controversy between the two. And basically the rest of the movie is about them trying to sort things out, as well as the relationship that continues to carry with Tank and Alexis.
It’s a hilarious movie, and is a must see comedy, especially if you like Dane Cook, though he’s kind of a pig in this movie. But that’s what makes it funny. I thought it was going to be some what of a chick flick, but it’s definitely not, so I would recommend guys to watch it.
Another real quick thing, if you’ve ever seen the movie Mean Girls, the girl her plays Janis, Caddy’s first friend she makes, appears in the movie as Alexis’s best friend and roommate. I didn’t even recognize her.

Fat Monkeys

I’ve heard of overweight pigs, and I’ve heard of overweight people. Basically anything can become overweight. But never in my life have I seen a monkey this fat before. This monkey shown is a Macaca mulatta monkey, and happens to be one of the most overweight monkeys in the world. The average weight of these monkeys should be about 20 pounds but this specific one happens to be about 3 times that. Poor little guys. The reason why they’re this fat is actually because of the visitors. Many tourist over feed the monkeys, causing them to gain massive amounts of weight, which then give them the image that they have. These overweight monkeys can be found only have Ohama park in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture.
Treeman

Dede Koswara is the man whose story has been shared with millions. I recently came across some articles about this man, and decided to research more about this mans tragic story. As shown in the picture, Dede is suffering from a severe case of abnormal warts that grow all through out his body. He developed this because he is a victim of the HPV and immune to deficiency. With this odd characteristic he carries, he become known as the famous “Tree Man”
He first got the name because his growths resembled much of what tree bark looks like. What started out as a small wart on his knee, when he was just a teenager, turned into a life changing obstacle for him to over come. The warts started as a reaction to the human papillomavirus. Almost 20 million Americans have this virus, but Dede’s case is by far the most interesting and unexplainable. If someone were to develop a wart from the virus, it would only be enough that it peered our through the skin. Dede’s case, the warts took over because of his rare immune deficiency. Soon enough, the warts were spread through out his whole body. His hands were fully covered, which prevented him from being able to do every day tasks. Because of that, he had to quit his job and had to leave his home to find a new career.
Hanny of Hanny Enterprise discovered him and took him in to do carnival-like showings around the country. This is when he first got his name “Tree Man”. Luckily, because of being in the show, his fame rose. As his publicity rose, it helped him find his way to get some medical attention. With the help of many doctors, they found that they could possibly help clear up the warts by refurbishing his immune system.
With that said, Dede Koswara has had many surgeries, and been examined a numerous amount of times. It’s said that he will probably never be able to be fully cured, but with his new treatment, he might have the chance to living life in a normal manner.
I hope the best for this man. I couldn't imagine being his place. What really sickens me are the things people probably said about him, just because he was different. It said that when he moved from his village, he had to live on the streets, and people were scared to take him in. It’s a sad story, but I’m glad he’s on the right track to finding happiness again.

Movie Review: Just friends

The title is pretty explanatory on what the movie is about, another situation that we will all experience if we haven’t yet already. Being told by your all time crush that they want to be “just friends”. Ouch, that hurts, and what hurts more is when after all those years you think you have a chance, and you still get shot down. That’s what this movie is mainly based on. A dorky, overweight kid, Ryan Reynolds, has a huge crush on this girl Jamie, all through out high school. But when it comes to graduation the thinks it’s time to reveal his true feelings for her. Unfortunately for him, he gets told that his crush has always loved him…as a brother. After that, he runs away to California and doesn’t return to his hometown till ten years later.
Stuck in New Jersey with a client of his, Anna Farris, who happens to be a famous pop star in the movie, they find their way back to his old house, where his family warmly greets him with the surprise visit. Of course, he then runs into his old crush, who is in awe by the way he looks, since he lost all of his fat. Now that he’s looking good, he thinks he can finally get with Jamie, but there are numerous obstacles that he has to get over on the way.
This movie is one of my all time favorite movies. I love Anna Farris’ character, because she’s ridiculously stupid and annoying, but that’s what makes it so funny. Ryan Reynolds is also always pretty comical. But there are parts in the movie when you just want to punch him for being such a jerk. It’s that big man ego all guys develop, or at least the majority.
There are also some good tips for those people looking to get past the “friend zone” with the one you’ve had your eye on. Just remember, it’s important to be yourself.

Movie Review: Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Oh the heartaches of being dumped. The majorities of us have experienced something similar, or will sometime in life. This is a perfect movie to relate yourself to when you’re the one whose heart has been broken. And instead of watching a sappy love movie that makes you miss the old days, you should watch this movie, because it encourages you to go out there and meet new people. Or just move on with your life, and let faith take things into matter. When you do that, the best things will happen to you
The movie is about a young, kind of unattractive man who is dating a sexy famous actress. With a relationship of five years, the girl friend, Sarah Marshall, decides that she’s done with her boyfriend, and ready to move on to bigger and better things. With that the boyfriend is devastated and completely breaks down. So to do something that will cheer him up, he takes a trip to the ever so popular Hawaii. The only problem is, when he arrives who does he see but Sarah and her other boy toy she was hiding for two years.
The movie then focuses on the ex boyfriends struggles of getting over his hot girlfriend. On the way he meets new friends that help him get over his obstacles and move on with his life.
I would just like to say that I loved this movie. I thought it was a hilarious movie, and would definitely recommend it to anyone whose going through a hard time in their relationship. If not it’s just an overall funny movie and is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Movie Review: Step Brothers

As a child, my whole dream was to grow up, but as I find myself approaching adulthood, all I dream about is being a kid again. The movie Step Brothers happens to be about those adults, who just never wanted to grow up.
The main plot is about an older man who meets an older woman, and of course they fall in love. As soon as they discovered they were soul mates, they decide to get married and move in with each other. The only problem is that, they both have 40 year old sons, who still act like they’re 7 years old. They don’t have jobs, they have no girlfriends, and yes, they still live with their parents. And with that, the movie becomes a hilarious ride as Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly battle out their differences.
The movie progresses, and soon Ferrell and Reilly see that they shouldn’t be enemies, because they’re practically the same person. So they become best friends.
I would definitely recommend this movie if you’re looking for a good laugh. The movie is rated R, so just to warn you, there are some inappropriate parts. But that shouldn’t stop you from watching this outrageously funny movie.

Ah! They're Naked

Heterocephalus glaber, big word for something so little, and so ugly. The naked mole rat originated from East Africa, and like normal moles, they live underground. Yet these moles are much more unique then your average moles because their body structure allows them to breathe on a limited air supply. Though they have small lungs, their blood has a strong affinity for oxygen.
Another thing to keep in mind about this animal is how it got its name. Yes, it doesn’t have much hair, giving the animal the instant effect of being naked. But its skin is what makes these moles one of a kind. It lacks something we know as a neurotransmitter. Basically, that means they don’t receive pain receptors, causing them to have no feeling in their skin.
I bet you’re wondering if these make good pets. Well, to be honest I don’t know who would ever want this ugly rodent as a pet…but if you did, it probably wouldn’t be recommended. The conditions that these moles live under are crucial for their survival. Since they live underground for the majority of their life time, they have no need for their eyes, making them practically blind. But don’t be fooled. Their quick little fellows who can move forward and backwards underground, and have menacing teeth that can break the skin of humans.
