educational programming?

Recently I went through the pain and agony of taking that ever so popular test known as the ACT. It honestly wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be, but I still found myself rushing with the ridiculously small amount of time that they give us to answer the questions. Anyways, I won’t be discussing the test itself, but the essay that we were given. When you take the ACTs you have the choice to take the multiple choice test and then be done, or end your test with an opinionative essay over a question that your given. I figured I should probably write the essay, so I signed up for it. When I received the question, I immediately knew what my argument was going to be. The question was asking whether or not we think if television should dedicate at least 20% of there channels to educational programs.

Of course I said no to this. Some of my reasons being that, no ones going to watch them, which means it wouldn’t be worth the time and money. You would have to pay for a channel to air the show, and then pay for directors, producers, camera, screening, actors or actresses, and so on. Making a television program is costly, and you shouldn’t waste time and money on something that doesn’t have a for sure thing on success. I already think we have enough educational programming as it is. Discovery channel is enough for me. And if this is the thought of an average teenage kid, I’m guessing it will probably be the same for others.

Another point I made was that people are always trying to enforce the idea of staying away from the television. It’s a time for entertainment, but it needs to be done in moderation. If they keep trying to reinforce children to watch T.V., who knows how much higher the obesity rate could go up. Instead of going outside and running around and playing, children will be cooped up inside and watch educational TV. That’s unhealthy for the body in so many ways. Bad for the eyes, bad for the body, just sitting there watching, and trying to learn. Too much of that could really mess with a kid’s brain.

I think I made a couple other points, just following the other reasons above. It was an interesting topic, and I guess you could I say I enjoyed writing it, but probably because it was an easy topic to defend or go against.
