Alright so a couple weeks I was walking to my first hour class, when my eyes caught the sight of a couple, standing in front of me, completely sucking face. As I stood and I watched, I noticed how completely oblivious the couple was to me, as I stood there gawking at their performance. I was a little disgusted, and kind of embarrassed for the couple, because, as I looked around, I was definitely not the only person observing them. So as they finished their parting good bye farewell, I’ll-never-see-you-again kiss, I slightly approached them and simply said, “That was hot”. Now I didn’t really think that this obscene display was hot, or enjoyable to watch. Like I said, I was grossed out. But I felt the need to tell the couple that what they were doing was by far the best thing I’ve seen all day. My intensions were mostly to be sarcastic, and hopefully they would get the hint that people were watching, and their actions just kind of made things weird.
There was no telling on how they were going to act. The boyfriend looked up, and smiled, probably because he was more so proud of him and his girlfriend, then embarrassed or ashamed. And the girlfriend, well, I’ll just say I felt daggers stab into me when she looked up and gave me a death stare. Honestly, if this look could kill, I would’ve been dead, miraculously brought back to life again, and then murdered harshly once again. Yeah, I would’ve been dead twice with the look I got. And once she shot me that look, I felt kind of guilty, not so much because I interrupted anything, because they were clearly finished when I made my comment. But it was the fact that I was basically mocking them for there display of affection towards each other. For all I know, someone could’ve died, or maybe they really weren’t going to see each other for a long time. Or maybe they were just another teenage couple that likes the attention they get when swapping spit in a public places. That was the thought that crossed my mind after my 30 seconds of guilt. If people are going to do that kind of stuff in public, they should expect to receive comments.
I thought this was a good topic to blog about because people have so many different opinions on Public Display of Affection. I for one am not too bothered by it, though sometimes people just get way out of hand. On the other side, some people think that things like hugging are extreme. I think over the years it’s become more noticeable, and more of a problem, whether it’s at schools, malls, movie theatres. I think people could try what I did, just to throw the couples off. Throw out some kind of small comment, or compliment to the couple, and see what happens. Because I know that I made that one couple I had my interaction have definitely been toning it down. I see them everyday, but ever since that one day I said those three words “That was hot”, there display is more peaceful then disturbing.
